Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Michael D — 24 Feb 2015
"Don't you touch my Lobby boy!" as M. Gustave shouted to the soldiers. It's magically brilliant, with a very creative concept that made this film very attractive and colorful. It's a Wes Anderson trademark which has been wonderful for all these years.
It's like watching a 2d cartoon script slide show or playing a wonderful 2d platform game, which is really magnificent. I love the casting, they are so fun to watch. The genuinely made poetic dialogues, it's a top notch.
One scene that really caught my attention, is the prison scene. I mean that is really fun, like I'm watching the 3 stooges on a classic Chaplin film. But I felt, I don't have that satisfied feeling.
I don't know, maybe it's the over the top sequences, or everything is rushed within an hour and a half. Maybe the story is not drastically dramatic. But let's face it, it is a beautiful piece of art that intended to be done as a classic.
It's the genius of film making. 4/5.
