Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Ryan S — 20 Mar 2018
The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the quirkiest, cartoonish, and best movies to come out in a long time. It's nearly impossible to not get caught up in the whimsy of the caper at the core of the film.
Ralph Fiennes is near-perfect as the sophisticated and devoted concierge, and newcomer Tony Revolori, who portrays the hotel's new Lobby Boy, is outstanding as well. The film manages to be extremely reminiscent to films of the past, yet it is something fresh and unexpected, completely unlike any other movie ever released.
Yet underneath all the comedy and beautiful styling, the film manages to reflect on the importance of being loyal to others and keeping hope through dark times. Stunning, funny, elegant, heartfelt, what more could you ask for in a film?
