Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Aztecinkc — 27 Jul 2014
For those who view "Bottle Rocket" as Anderson's best (read: unpretentious, original, and unburdened by the ornamentation he would eventually become transfixed by), it's not surprising that GBH is a disappointment.
When once obscure was entertaining, it now becomes distracting. When once bizarre was endearing, it now becomes, well, just so bizarre it leads nowhere. The film goes many directions, and none of them capture you or make you care about how they end.
You just want it to end.
