Review of The Good Son (1993) by Leah B — 25 Jan 2009
A mediocre telling of a very good story. There was nothing wrong with the two main actors (who doesn't love little Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin, even if he's freakin' evil?), and as mentioned the plot was creepy, disturbing, and actually really cool.
It's just the way this movie was made that's disappointing. There's a lot of unnecessary, cliche dialogue, and the denouement with an epic shot of Elijah Wood at the end, standing in a hilly desert alone thinking a monologue? What? This movie is worth watching, though- I'll say that because the things Macaulay Culkin does in this movie are shocking, and I did get into it.
But there was a lot of mediocre and somewhat cheesy things that I had to look past. But in the end I couldn't help but feel that it would've been much better as a book or a very, very well made film.
Which this isn't.
