Review of The Gold Rush (1925) by Joe T — 06 Jan 2007
A very beautiful movie. But I think it lacks ideology very much!
In other Chaplin's movies the main character was poor for all his life. And he usually remains poor ... but happy! It is like an ultimate gift for all his sufferings. And people like such endings. Because this character is close to them. He is one of them.
In this movie he became rich.... And he is not one of them anymore. In his soul... maybe. But still no. And Georgia stayed with him because of .... yes, because of his kind heart. But he also had money. I am sure she would stay with him even without the movey he owned. That is the kind of ending we all wanted.
