Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Charles G — 06 Mar 2015
In my opinion, probably the best of the trilogy, which is as big an indicator of its quality as I can think of. Part I and II, alongside Casablanca, remain not only my three favourite, but also the best films I've ever seen.
A fantastically real representation of Mario Puzo's novel and the frankly crazy life of the Mafia. I would love to see this film in chronological order, showing the change from De Niro to Brando to Pacino.
The latter's portrayal of Michael is as good a performance as you will ever see. A truly great film with wickedly evil characters. The denigration of Michael from his time as the young, unassuming son to the 'Don' is one of the greatest aspects of the trilogy.
One of the very best films.
