Review of The Giver (2014) by Bo L — 19 Nov 2014
As with most science fiction films this Young Adult story falls into the pitfalls of a great concept thay ultimate is weakened by it's story line, which is rather trivial and unoriginal. Which to some extent can be said about the concept as well in light of what we have seen in recent years. The acting is as strong as one could hope from it's main cast; Streep and Bridges giving us enough of their characters to suit the film. Visually there is little to complaint about as it is both solid work and it manage to play a few tricks with it's visuals such as black and white world. But none of these things can save the film from it's own story line and annoyingly simple open end.
This would probably have worked better as a short film than a full length film.
