Review of The Giver (2014) by Cade H — 10 Aug 2015
The Giver is one of my favorite books and I was really excited to see this movie. I was also a little worried it would ruin the greatness of the book like movies tend to do. Luckily, the essence of the book was captured perfectly on screen and I enjoyed every minute that I was watching.
Seeing this community, that has no feelings, emotions and strict rules, makes you root for them and want everyone to realize the truth. When the main character slowly gets the worlds memories and brings back feelings and love into the film, it is amazing to watch and you feel connected to him.
It did seem a little short and there were situations that could of been given more thought and more of the book could have been used. It got tense at the end and just like the book, it concludes in a way that has you wanting more.
If you enjoyed the book this film should be a good compliment to it for you. If you have not read the book, you should find even more enjoyment because you won't know what is coming and the ideas presented will be fresh and new.
The Giver was great and makes me want to go back and relive the tale in paperback.
