Review of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) by Adam N — 02 Mar 2009
Brilliant piece of film making, as if you couldn't guess its about a schoolgirl named Mokoto who can leap through time after falling in front of a train only to jump back to the start of the morning before it happened. After discussing it with her aunt she tells her that she has the ability to leap through time, something that once happened to her too. This isn't all pure magical make-believe stuff, its a serious movie with only 1 element that makes it different.
In the spirit of Ghibli's 'Whisper of the Heart' it seems like a typical romance movie at first glance. But that's not necessarily the main focus, what its really about is your course of action and how it can change things/people without you even realising because you're only thinking of yourself and your benefits.
The first 2/3 of the movie cannot be criticised at all, its that good. Unfortunately the final act falls a little under the pressure but it still remains consistent and one of the reasons is because its based on a story from the creator of 'Paprika' but luckily it remains easy to follow and gets the message across without questions.
