Review of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) by Nikolaj Z — 24 Jun 2011
Mamoru Hosoda is one of the most influential and respected anime directors of our time, and that factoid shines through in this collaboration with MADHOUSE. Simple and sweet but also deep and melancholic, this film takes a unique approach to the usual idea of a person suddenly gaining amazing powers, however simple they might appear, and trying to do good with them.
The lovely animation, high quality English dub, wonderful music, tight scripting and memorable characters come together to give an example of what animation can truly achieve as an art form, given that the right people are working on it.
