Review of The Gift (2015) by Anthony K — 06 Sep 2015
Maybe a little bit overhyped for me by a friend who promised a stomach-turning twist. Don't get me wrong - I wasn't HOPING for something more disturbing; frankly I was dreading this movie because I can be very sensitive to those types of things. That said, the (still) very unsettling climactic act is handled was gracefully as possible - it serves the plot and context of the film, without feeling the need to show the whole thing play out.
And the rest of the movie, to be sure, is fantastic. Sterling performances across the board (there are really only 3 major ones to speak of), I can't believe how solid and assured Joel Edgerton is as a first time(!) director, and lead actor?? It's baffling.
