Review of The Gift (2015) by Tyler S — 24 Aug 2016
A very interesting psychological thriller that takes the viewer in a complete different direction than originally thought.
Simon is a very successful man. He lives comfy, has a beautiful wife, and has just been promoted. When someone from high school sees him at a store and says his name is Gordon, he is caught off guard. Something is sort of off with the man as he keeps showing up with gifts to their new house.
That's all I can say if you haven't seen the film.
The movie brilliantly takes us in a direction we didn't think was possible which is the brilliance of the direction.
Tension is masterfully crafted and the characters are developed very well.
Bateman kills it in this role and gives one of his best performances. He has really come full circle as an actor, and became one of the better talents.
The movie examines a lot of social issues, and asks some moral questions. Again the tension is great, and there are good twists and turns we experience along the way that engage us, and bring us in even further. A solid psychological film.
