Review of The Getaway (1972) by Mallory A — 01 Dec 2011
Peckinpah creates another ultra-violent classic. This time it's starring America's King of Cool, Steve McQueen. The film gets off to a slow start following Doc's (McQueen) last few hours before being released from prison.
The first 1/4 of the movie we really get to know him and his wife. And as the second half of the film kicks in, the action is relentless and builds up to an ultimate showdown. As usual Peckinpah shows great visual style but can set up ultra-violence with heart.
This is a classic.
