Review of The Getaway (1972) by Richard D — 26 Jan 2018
This one of Peckinpah's best films, and it doesn't seem to be acknowledged as such very often. I suspect that this is largely because it was kind of a work-for-hire job for Peckinpah and was a big commercial success that doesn't really express his P.
O.V. in the way that "Straw Dogs", "The Wild Bunch" and "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" do. What it is though is an amazing action machine and Peckinpah's greatest bit of straightforward genre film making.
