Review of The Gay Divorcee (1934) by Jay K — 02 Oct 2011
In a comedy of mistaken identities that Hollywood would return to again many times, Fred and Ginger play the leads together for the first time. Astaire's pursuit of Roger's reluctant titular divorcee lends him the best lines and set pieces, whilst the supporting cast is strong and full of scene-stealing cameos (E.
E. Clive as the Customs Inspector and Eric Blore as the waiter, in particular). Meanwhile Betty Grable shows up and almost trumps every one involved in the film's best song and dance.
