Review of The Gate (1987) by Gary G — 09 Jul 2009
(3 stars out of 5) This post-Poltergeist 80's yarn about a kid who unknowingly unleashes a portal to hell under the tree stump in his backyard has some good thrills and some pretty cool 80's special effects to keep you interested.
It's also cute to see a pre-teen Stephen Dorff fighting claymation demons while his parents are away for the weekend. Creepiest scene: It's a tie between Glen's BFF dancing with his dead mom in a hallucination which turns out to be the family's dog who's died or when Glen's demon-dad's face melts off and smashes on the sidewalk like a rotten pumpkin.
