Review of The Gate (1987) by Corey B — 27 Jul 2009
Despite some clunky scenes in the first half (gotta love those teen levitation parties) this one gets a lot more fun as it goes along. The 80s managed to deliver some pretty fun "kid friendly" horror films, and while The Gate isn't at the level of Gremlins or Monster Squad, it still manages to be quite entertaining. Today, this would probably be incredibly tame, but The Gate manages to throw in some Barbie doll impaling gore, shotgun wielding sisters, and an apocalyptic finale.
The effects are inventive, the kids surprisingly good, and once it gets going, the pace is quite relentless.
