Review of The Fury (1978) by Mike G-Man G — 10 Aug 2008
Director Brian DePalma's direct follow-up to "Carrie" was this Hitchcockian thriller with paranormal elements. The story can be a little choppy, but DePalma is at the top of his game here, keeping things moving at a rollercoaster pace.
He delivers some terrific shock and suspense sequences, along with some welcome bits of humor to leaven the tension...and he certainly doesn't stint on the blood and gore, particularly in the explosive finale.
Good performances all around, especially by Douglas as the anguished father and Cassavetes as the chief governmental agency baddie. Try to see it on DVD, as TV prints are bound to be heavily edited.
