Review of The Fugitive (1993) by Kevin N — 03 Nov 2017
One of the better efforts to come out of the action genre in the 90s, Andrew Davis' film is tense 90% of the time, dropping only toward the end when the conclusion is clunkily revealed through babble.
The film is often remembered for Tommy Lee Jones' Academy Award-winning performance, a low-key and non-strenuous one that is exciting and laced with humor but one that, frankly, I wouldn't call Oscar-worthy, especially when compared to the contenders that year.
It is the Harrison Ford character, Dr. Richard Kimble, that really kept me intrigued throughout the film; he is sympathetic and easy to root for in a quiet and calculated sort of way, and he brings an aching tragedy to the story with his occasional break-downs and desperation.
Well-shot, suspenseful and highly entertaining.
