Review of The French Connection (1971) by Paul R — 07 Apr 2011
The French Connection: An intense, gritty and fast paced Police Action / Drama set in New York. Two cops plan to intercept a massive heroin shipment from France. Hackman is outstanding - one of his best performances.
He is infectious on screen and throws every part of himself into his character as Popeye - the bigoted, heavy drinking but great narcotics cop. The film has a real raw edge that other cop films lack and the car chase scene is nothing but superb, one of the best of all time.
This is a film packed with greats, from the acting, the specific scenes to the whole film itself. If you like film - you'll Love this.
