Review of The French Connection (1971) by Xoandre M — 07 Jan 2013
"The French Connection" stars Gene Hackman as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle, a tough as nails NYC cop on the trail of a huge Heroin smuggling ring. The film is THE gritty cop movie, the one that ushered in so many other gritty cop dramas, and Hackman is excellent in the lead.
The classic car chase in which Popeye attempts to outrun the train and stop the sniper is fantastic.
