Review of The Fountainhead (1949) by Marla — 21 Jun 2008
Gary Cooper cracks Patricia Neal's white marble. When I started watching this film, and as I have never read Ayn Rand's writings but know of their philosophy, I kept thinking this movie was "The Nancy Reagan Story.
" Debate the merits of Rand all you wish, but the movie is camp, highly polished with expensive soap. The visuals are stunning and stylized, and thus the movie is about aesthetics and the control of public tastes.
Unfortunately, we average Joes must make a living in the messy real world and do not have the benefit of a sponsor or patron to pay for our artistic visions, however well we think of ourselves and our creations.
