Review of The Fountain (2006) by Jonh. — 26 Nov 2006
One of the most lyrical, poetic movies I've seen in years. It left me drained and full and I loved every beautiful minute. I'll go see it again. Its terribly romantic, and I mean that in a more classical sense, and brimming with heart.
The movie really isn't that hard to follow, you just have to have some patience and let it unfold before you. I was fearful it might be pretentious, but it's not by a long shot. The true nature of the different eras (other than the present day) were a surprise to me and made so much sense.
A wonderfully imaginative, heartfelt film that should be treasured, but that will probably only become well loved by a select group. Maybe that's as it should be.
