Review of The Founder (2016) by Hayden B — 21 Nov 2016
A complete and utter failure in conveying a true story of how capitalism ruins everything. With a script riddled with cliches that devolves into a paint-by-numbers biopic ('Here's the thing', 'Let's make a deal', 'The thing is'), the only saving grace comes from the performers who make the most of a rotten script, particular credit should go to Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch who bring a presence that feels genuine (if only the film had focussed solely on them).
Dealing with a source material that should make for riveting viewing, the end product is incredibly disappointing. Seeing the uncertainty with the scheduling surrounding "The Founder", you have to wonder if even after seeing how mediocre the film was, the Weinstein's opted to double-down in the hopes of snaring Oscars.
