Review of The Foot Fist Way (2006) by Zack H — 02 Jun 2008
I hate giving this film an average rating, because I really wanted to like it after hearing so much about it. It was shot close to where my parents live and I want to make films back in North Carolina.
I just could not find it funny. I laughed three times and chuckled a few uncomfortable forced laughs. It wasn't shot well, it wasn't acted well and it wasnâ??t edited well. The music was awful and sometimes misplaced in the moment.
I think these guys (Best, HIll and McBride) have a lot of potential in the writing department and McBride is genuinely hysterical. However, a few memorable one-liners do not save a mediocre film. I'm happy McBride, Best and Hill used this as a calling card and got some deals going, but this should have been a better film.
I see why the studios wanted to start out with a limited release, they wanted to track the numbers â?? this time they were right â?? Iâ??m surprised Apatow and his crew were wrong.
