Review of The Fog of War (2003) by Caspar R — 13 Dec 2009
The Fog of War is a documentary in which a man of great importance to the history of the United States tells us, as an audience, about his life and the people he knew. We see this man talk and laugh and cry within a framework of historical documentation, such as primary source tape-recordings, bomber-mounted video footage, and old news reel clippings, which bring his story to life.
This is a good movie because it connects with the story-teller in me. It is good because it moves quickly and keeps its characters interesting. It is good because it does not pretend to hide its biases, and we don't care.
It would be well worth your time to sit in a room for an hour and a half with Robert McNamara. Sure it's a documentary and I don't much like documentaries -- but this movie's good.
