Review of The Fog of War (2003) by Zed L — 01 Jul 2010
A thoughtful and impartial look at McNamera's life. I found the man to be a fascinating look at being human: he is flawed and this is reflected especially in his choices in the Vietnam War. I left the film respecting the man, though, because it was clear to me that he was a great businessman, and a poor politician.
He wasn't qualified to pursue Vietnam, and he wasn't strong enough to stand against Johnson's desire to escalate. The director does a great job of asking McNamera the tough questions, and he is remarkably forthright about his accomplishments and mistakes.
