Review of The Flying Scotsman (2006) by Tim H — 20 Mar 2008
I love this film. Simple yet utterly compelling it's the best Scottish film since Local Hero, better even than American Cousins. Jonny Lee Miller is outstanding, this is perhaps the best performance of his career, and the rest of the cast shine alongside him.
As well as the wonderfully uplifting narrative, the film serves to raise an important point about a serious problem here in Scotland, that of depressive disorders amongst young men. If this film helps just one person to ask for help then Douglas MacKinnon has achieved something great.
This film is something rare in modern cinema, a wonderful and enjoyable film with a heart AND a moral. SEE IT!
