Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by Herbert L — 26 Dec 2011
When I was younger, I remember reading many historical accounts and books about the Japanese invasion of China. The details and pictures of tortured Chinese women of all ages were very vivid and horrifying.
Zhang Yi Mou's "Flowers of War" already toned down the horror. So, it's really saddening for me to read reviews that call the movie a "Chinese's side of the story" or "a propaganda.
" I wish the film critics who call the movie overly sentimental read up on some real history told by real people.
