Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by Alan S — 04 Sep 2013
The beautiful shots are not misplaced. They are placed around the church and the heroic acts of the Chinese soldiers. It's a very necessary film. Everyone is aware the Holocaust is bad. However, hardly anyone knows about the hardships of The Rape of Nanking and what they went through.
However, there are many flaws and I feel there is too much comedy and too much unnecessary stupidity. The American depiction is extremely accurate at least. Ignorant and stupid until the critical moment they make the right decisions.
But, overall I think it is a decent film. It's shameful that Hollywood ignores it in favor of the Japanese.
