Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by Denise M — 28 Jul 2012
A very poignant and loud film, that unfortunately doesn't manage to avoid being Americanized to entertain the audiences (the Rambo Chinese soldier, and 'white' Bale's sheer presence could have been different).
However it doesn't cease to be an intense experience with fantastic performances and superb technical characteristics (simply gorgeous photography and cinematography, among others). Violent and forceful, difficult to watch - but still necessary for a lot of reasons. Beautiful and horrendous - a true oxymoron.
