Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Zoltan T — 20 Dec 2017
This little indie film hits like a wrecking ball. A heartbreakingly accurate portrayal of what it means to be mired in the circumstances of poverty. The tragedy of how the world fails a young single mother and her precocious daughter unfolds with painstaking honesty in the shadows of Orlando's Disney. Yet, there is magic in the film, and that magic revolves around the little girl Moonee (fantastically played by Brooklyn Prince) in her attempts to find escape from the mundane rubble of her impoverished reality. Brooklyn Prince should win a special Oscar for this role - this is a gem performance.
Also enjoyed Willem DaFoe's role as the motel manager who endeavours to look after the families one backward step from skid row. No doubt DaFoe's involvement got this picture financed - well done, Sir.
The ending is gut wrenching. This film will shake you.
