Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Joshua W — 26 Dec 2017
There are some saving graces of this movie. It has some of the most beautiful cinematography of any films this year and has great performances, especially the subtle brilliance of Dafoe.
However, it's plot is rambling as it is from the perspective of the children. It becomes a bore fest with seemingly no direction of where the story will go. I feel the director has achieved what they intended, a look at poverty in America through the eye so of a child, but unfortunately the desired effect just isn't that enjoyable. I understand what the film is about but it's just not something I ever ish to sit through again.
And don't even get me started on that ending. If I could some up the ending in one word: 'The Worst Ending'. "That doesn't make sense, that's 3 words" I hear you say. Well that phrase being one word makes as much sense as that atrocious ending did.
