Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Andrew K — 14 Nov 2017
Beasts of the Southern Wild for white people. Brilliant acting and compelling scenery didn't save this movie from the fact that about an hour into it, I was wondering if anything was going to happen.
There's literally no plot and, although it probably helps the film depict, without judgement, the actions taking place, it feels entirely too long. Characters are introduced and dismissed without warning.
Motivations and aftermaths are largely left to the imagination (why does Stacy fold so quickly? Whatever happened to the tourists?) It's Moonie's movie so if she doesn't know, we don't, but for our sake the precocious 6 yearold could interject herself into a few more of these situations.
Of this movie 1) was 30 minutes shorter and 2) ended on its F you moment before cutting to its sounded credits, I'd give it 4 or 5 stars, but as it is, it's too long and I hated the ending.
