Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Cathy M — 05 Oct 2017
Man, I really loved this movie! That said, most of the people attending the screening hated it. (a lot of "I'll never get that 2 hours back") Hey, it doesn't offer what a lot of people look for in a film.
Now, if you're a real film buff... I think you'll enjoy it. It'll be tough to find an American film that captures childhood so accurately. It's beautifully shot. Just gorgeous! You're transported to a world that if you're lucky, you've never had to experience.
Extraordinary performance by Willem Dafoe and the girl who played the lead is PERFECT. You don't feel that anyone is acting. Everything isn't spelled out and the director doesn't candy-coat unlikeable characters.
I respect that. The movie feels sooo natural and there are moments that are just magical. This is one that's gonna stay with me for sure!
