Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Nancy B — 01 Feb 2016
This was a truly great movie. I've read many coast guard rescue stories and I read this book. Unlike all the fake emotion and fake heroics of all the fake Hollywood movies, these men are real heroes displaying incredible courage in horrific circumstances. If course this movie won't do well at the box office, it has no sex and no F bombs. But it is more amazing that any of the junk that Hollywood produces.
The only weak point (why I'm not giving it a full five starts) is the part that Hollywood did take on -- the romance between Bernie Weber and his girlfriend. Actually, everything they said about their relationship was true, but they were already married at the time of the Pendelton disaster and his wife was at home sick the whole time and never left her house. And he wasn't able to get back to her until five days after the rescue. But Hollywood would never tolerate a whole movie without a romance.
