Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Matt A — 16 May 2016
An enjoyable enough disaster film, however I felt that there was something lacking. I wasn't as emotionally invested in the characters as much as I should of been. It seems like the cast can easily convey this while filming, but there is a disconnect to the viewer.
Its not a bad film by any means, but the emotional pay off isn't as hard hitting as I'd expected it to be. Casey Affleck is the standout here as he brings a certain calmness to the crew on the SS Pendleton.
The CGI is OK, not over the top, but serves the story well. The 2 hour run time does seem a little over stretched. Its an enjoyable film but I found it to be lacklustre.
