Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Allen M — 02 Feb 2016
"The Finest Hours" is a period piece that tells the true story of a harrowing Coast Guard rescue in Massachusetts in 1952. A T-2 tanker has split in half and run aground on a shoal and has mere hours before it founders.
Chris Pine leads a crew of four men to rescue the survivors. I thought certain elements of the film were a bit cliched for a survival story and character development is lacking to an extent, but overall this is an authentic period piece that chronicles a true story of heroism and bravery in the face of adversity.
Chris Pine acts with conviction and is a sympathetic protagonist that we all want to cheer for. It is because of his leadership and bravery that the mission takes place in the first place. Overall this was a pretty solid film --------------------------------------------- B.
