Review of The Favourite (2018) by Marco Antonio L — 14 Jan 2019
A period comedy about the frail Queen Anne of Great Britain, who "governs" the country with the help of her close friend, Sarah Churchill as a new servant, Abigail, arrives to plan her ascent to the Queen's favour.
The genre is quite rare, and it reminded me of Amadeus' style. The film doesn't take itself or historical accuracy too seriously under the extraordinary direction of Yorgos Lanthimos and together with the great performances of Rachel, Emma and Olivia, the breathtaking sets, costumes and hair-styling, it makes up a truly unique, hilarious and entertaining story.
Best of luck at the awards' season!
