Billed as a romantic comedy but played off as a weak male melodrama, "Fabulous Baker Boys" cannot decide what kind of movie it aspires to be. The result is a film full of awkward tension, uninteresting plot points, and frivolous musical montage.
Had "Baker Boys" chosen a clear path---comedy or drama---it might have been a more enjoyable experience. Yet, in its present state, the film is nothing short of painful.
