Review of The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) by Sherry L — 05 Nov 2009
The Bridge brothers as a pianoplaying duo? It sounds interesting, and it's not all that bad. Some really good scenes, and even funny at times. I can't really put the finger on why I didn't like it. But I guess it was when Michelle Pfeiffer came into the picture that I started to dislike it. It's like the whole picture was depended on Michelle Pfeiffer's sexiness, witty lines, and funny out acting. But for us who don't think Pfeiffer is sexy or funny, the story fells pretty flat. Even though I like the Bridge brothers very much (and their fighting scene was quite entertaining) I still can't give this more then 40%, cause it also lacked originality.
And whatsmore, Pfeiffer's trashy-whore-version of Makin' Whoopee was absolutely horrendeus. Check out Eddie Cantor's version on youtube and you will see how it should be performed.
