Review of The Exterminator (1980) by Stephen C — 10 Feb 2012
Best viewed through a fug of beer and pizza James Glickenhaus takes the Death Wish and Taxi Driver template and gives us a grindhouse classic with lashings of violence, terrible acting and music but yet you cant help enjoy yourself although you might need a bath after.
John Eastland goes bonkers after his best friend is crippled in a mugging an dmeters out his own brand of justice against street thugs ,Mafia men and low life scumbags that only a city like New York can offer.
Robert Ginty gives Eastland the old thousand yard stare and a personal armoury in a locker and a neat line in disposing of various douchebags including a mince making machine and Mercury tipped bullets.
Its all very very silly and alarmingly violent (the branding by soldering iron is particually nasty)but at least Glickenhaus knows he is making Grindhouse trash and not Gone with the wind.
Trash then but entertaiming trash all the same and rememeber "If your lying i'll be back".
