Review of The Expendables (2000) by Alan Fong D — 28 Aug 2012
What do you get when you combine the world's most beloved action stars into a combat team in a B-Graded action flick? Directed by Stallone the man himself, 'The Expendables' has quite some cheesy dialogues and corny jokes to offer, but the action is loud and proud.
Explosions, martial art, gunfights and more explosions are more than enough to satisfy every adrenaline junkie's wildest wet dream. While the action will take some time for escalation, Stallone's approach of trying to capture that emotion within the characters, especially the protagonist Barney, is scarcely weak.
However, the film did exude some kind of independent old school spirit, since blockbusters nowadays centered more on CGIs, superheroes and animation. A slightly nostalgic throwback to all things basic and real instead of depending on computer-aged technology.
