Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Derek / / / — 28 Aug 2008
Over the years, I have read MANY reviews on this film. Most reviewers always point out that this movie is very pale in comparision to the original epic. In fact, this is the TRUE sequel to the original "Exorcist.
" Exorcist II was NOT written by William Peter Blatty, so in reality...part 1 and 3 are the true story. What's so interesting with this sequel is Blatty's approach with the entire package.
Blatty seems to completely stray away from the special effects & and over the top antics of the original. The one thing it does suffer from is poor pacing, but it fits the film completely. George C.
Scott and Brad Dourif's scenes together are breathtaking to say the least. Overall, Exorcist III may not be as shocking or flashy as it's big brother, but for what it lacks in special effects, it makes up with intelligent pacing and down right badass acting in spades.
This is one of the best psychological thrillers you could ever see. 4 stars.
