Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Dave W — 01 Apr 2009
In my experience the only Exorcist sequel/prequel worth seeing, this film is actually a masterful Horror that manages to disturb, provoke, maintain an excellent atmosphere, and actually scare you witless in a couple of scenes.
The film is VERY heavy on dialogue and can sometimes appear too clever for its own good, but that same dialogue is frequently and brilliantly insane when involving the Gemini Killer, whose eloquence and purity of evil makes Pazuzu look like Pingu ('Catatonics are SO easy to possess').
The tacked on, studio-driven exorcism scene at the end detracts from the film, but this is a dizzying and worthwhile experience for fans of the original, and a memorable and unique Horror in its own right.
