Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Charles S — 23 May 2009

A genuinely creepy followup to The Exorcist. Thank the movie gods the producers had enough common sense to pretend like part 2 never happened. Blatty really shines as a director here, makes me wonder why he doesn't have more films under his belt.

This movie is wholly and undoubtedly creepy. It never becomes absurd or campy when it so often walks the line between real and unreal. George C. Scott is flawless in his interpretation of Kinderman and I was very impressed with Brad Douriff.

After seeing him I get why Dhamer liked this movie so much. As far as changes to the novel, it's not so bad. William Peter Blatty's Legion really didn't have anything to do with an exorcism, but I didn't mind just one out of place scene.

This is not a typical horror movie. It's very dialouge heavy, plenty of character development. It's actually pretty refreshing to see.
