Review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) by Jason H — 12 Aug 2011

Well- written in the sense of having two stories push the film forward; one in the present(Father Moore's trial) and the other as Emily's story told through witness accounts and flashbacks. Also, the skeptical approach taken by the prosecution and Laura Linney 's character allows the movie to explore more logical explanations, instead of just showing a one-sided paranormal explanation by which other filmmakers are guilty of.

Conversely, the horror-action is on the actual possession and less on the exorcism, which is intended to keep the viewer on the edge; nicely done. Casting is excellent, acting is great, visual effects outstanding, and the editing is superb.

Finally, the movie solidifies Emily's suffering and death as not just necessary but essential...depending on your POV.
