Review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) by Guido S — 16 Aug 2013

Not really based on a true story, as it takes a story and changes mostly everything, but the general gist is there. There was a young girl Emily who was experiencing weird issues similar to possessions or epileptic psychosis, depending on who you talked to.

Her family seeks the help of a priest to perform exorcisms and suggests she stop her medications related to her symptoms which she does. The conditions worsen and eventually she dies and the priest is on trial.

I expected this to be more of a horror movie, but was surprised when it is mostly a courtroom drama with some psychological thriller thrown in there to get more eyeballs to watch, I almost expected some supernatural twist at the end.

However, that didn't come and the harsh realities of life set in. The acting was pretty good all around. Surprisingly good when I was going in with low expectations. Not sure I would watch it again, but was an entertaining use of 2 hours.
