Review of The Entity (1982) by Kilian Z — 16 Oct 2009
This movie is a discovery & I knew it due to the release of the Paranormal Activity and one of the critics made the comparison with the Entity. I did not know this movie so I watched It. Frankly this is an underrated movie simply because, yes, FX & photo style is aged, but set those in a side, and take only the story, this movie is really intense.
Since the Exorcist, I was never so stressed until this movie. The end is ... well, can be improved, but the rest is impressive. B. Hershey is fantastic, a hard role for a woman, as J. Foster in the Accused (I wonder if Kaplan was "inspired" by the first attack in the Entity as both scenes are really similar).
Director did a great job with all scenes in which things move by themselves (table, windows break etc) I do not know how to explain but it works here contrary to all those movies in which such things happen.
Maybe because this is not the main element of the movie, this is an ingredient. Quite terrific & it would deserve a good refreshing remake.
