Review of The Entity (1982) by Ted W — 26 Jun 2014
"The Entity" is far from perfect. It's too long and Ron Silver's character is rather annoying. However, the film has many more things going for it. First, it has Barbara Hershey, who turns in an exceptional and realistically terrified performance.
Second, it has its true-story source material to heighten the shock factor. Third, it dares to stand apart from its other ghost story predecessors by presenting the audience with a controversial, no-direct-answers perspective.
The rape scenes are hard to watch, but the movie still gives you chills and it is elevated above simple exploitation horror.
